Self Chatter is a personal self-reflection tool. We take your privacy seriously—especially because the thoughts you share here are deeply personal.

This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

What We Collect

Information You Provide

• Account information: Your email address (when you register, or when you keep a guest conversation). If you choose to register or log in with Google, your name and profile information from your Google account are also received.
• Your inner work: Your Path, the things you bring (moments and themes), the steps you choose, your answers to “How did it go?”, your Journal entries, your conversations with the guide, and your self-inquiries, insights and reminders
• Voice: If you use the microphone, what you say is turned into text, either by your browser or by us (see Voice Input). We do not store recordings.

Infrmation Collected Automatically

• Time zone: Taken from your browser, so your steps, reminders and dates show in your local time
• Usage data: Pages visited, clicks, time spent, browser type, device type
• Cookies: Small files stored on your device to keep you logged in and remember your preferences

Before You Have an Account

On the home page and at the end of our posts you can type what you want to bring before you register. That text stays in your own browser until you sign in, and only then is it sent to us. If you don’t sign in, it never reaches our servers. After a day it is no longer used, and it is deleted the next time you open our home page or one of our posts.

Starting Without Signing Up (Guest Conversations)

On some pages (for example selfchatter.com/next) you can start a conversation with the guide without registering. When you press Start, we create a guest account for you in this browser: it has no name, no email and no password you need to know, and you stay signed in to it through a cookie. What you write is saved to that guest account and sent to the guide (see AI Processing), just like for registered users.

If you leave your email to keep the conversation, it is added to your guest account, which then becomes a normal account. We send you one welcome email with your step and a link back, and, if your step has a check-back time, the “How did it go?” email. You can sign in later with Google using that email, or by setting a password.

If you don’t leave an email, the guest account and what you wrote are kept like any account, and you can only reach them from the same browser. Email us at hello@selfchatter.com to have them deleted.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Keep you logged in across sessions
• Save and display your inner work
• Send you the “How did it go?” emails you choose to get, and the welcome email when you keep a guest conversation
• Notice signs of serious distress in what you write, so we can show you where to find help
• Improve the service based on how it’s used
• Measure how well our ads work (only with your consent, see Cookies)
• Contact you about important updates (rarely)

We do not:

• Sell your personal data
• Use your inner work for advertising, or share it with advertising services
• Share your Path, the things you bring, your Journal, insights, reminders, Self Mandala, or other generated data with other users

AI Processing (Important)

Self Chatter uses Claude, an AI assistant by Anthropic, to power the guide, the self-inquiry conversations, the self-direction companion.

What this means:

• When you use the guide, self-inquiries or related AI features, the relevant inputs (what you write, your Path, and the details of the thing you are working on) are sent to Anthropic’s API
• When you use the microphone, your recording is sent to OpenAI’s API, and only the text comes back to us
• Anthropic and OpenAI process this data to generate responses or text
• According to Anthropic’s and OpenAI’s policies, data sent through their APIs is not used to train their AI models

Voice Input

When you tap the microphone, one of two things happens, depending on your browser:

Live typing: In browsers that offer speech recognition (such as Chrome, Edge and Safari), the words appear as you speak. Your browser does this itself: the audio is processed by your browser’s maker (Google for Chrome and Edge, Apple for Safari), under their privacy policies, and only the text reaches us.

Recording: In other browsers, or if live typing isn’t available, your recording is sent to OpenAI’s speech-to-text API and only the text comes back to us. We do not store the recording; it is deleted as soon as the text comes back. According to OpenAI’s policies, data sent through its API is not used to train its models.

Either way, the text is put in the box for you to check before you send it.

Analytics

We track navigation patterns inside the application to help us identify usability issues and improve the product.

• For visitors (not logged in): tracking is anonymous — page visits, clicks, scroll depth, and time on page only. No personal identifiers are recorded.
  For logged-in users: the same navigation data is linked to your user account so we can investigate specific user-experience issues. We never record the content of your Path, Journal entries, conversations, insights, reminders, or any other personal text you write. Click events on areas containing your personal content are stored only as a category label (e.g. “[insight_card]”), never the actual text.
• On pages our ads lead to (such as /next), we also count each step a visitor takes — opening the page, starting to type (and how long that took), pressing Start, agreeing a step, leaving an email — together with which ad and video led there. This uses a random ID kept in your browser’s storage, never what you write.

Analytics data is retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted.

We use cookies for:

We also use your browser’s own storage to keep what you typed before registering, as described above, and the random ID used to count steps on ad landing pages.

Advertising cookies are set only after you accept them in the cookie banner. If you reject them, no advertising tag is loaded. We don’t use any other third-party tracking cookies.

You can manage cookies through your browser settings or through the cookie preferences on our site.

Data Storage & Security

• Your data is stored on secure servers (WordPress hosting in the EU)
• Emails, including the “How did it go?” emails, are sent through our hosting provider’s mail server
• We use HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
• Access to your data is limited to essential personnel only

While we take reasonable precautions, no internet transmission is 100% secure.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Export your data
• Withdraw consent at any time

Data Retention

• Your account and your inner work are kept as long as your account is active
• If you request deletion, we will remove your data within 30 days
• Some data may be retained longer if required by law

Self Chatter is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via email or a notice on the site.
