The hero with a thousand faces by Joseph Campbell
This book is essentially a map of the inner work that seekers walk down. Throughout mythology, there is a universal pattern that – Joseph Campbell, the writer of the book called the “hero’s journey” – can be found nearly everywhere in our traditions and myths.
The “hero’s journey” has three main acts, the Departure, the Initiation, and the Departure. And it has 12 steps:
- The Ordinary World
- The Call to Adventure
- Refusal of the Call
- Meeting the Mentor
- Crossing the First Threshold
- Tests, Allies, and Enemies
- Approach to the Inmost Cave
- The Ordeal
- Reward (Seizing the Sword)
- The Road Back
- The Resurrection
- Return with the Elixir
(Did you know that Luke Skywalker’s character from Star Wars was also based on this book?)
